On July 2, 2018, just after 6:00 pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of a possible drowning in the Lee River at the Old Pinawa Dam site off Provincial Road 520, in the RM of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. When officers arrived, they learned an 18-year-old male from Winnipeg had been swimming down the rapids on the high side of the dam with friends when they lost sight of him, and he had not resurfaced. The male was not wearing a life jacket.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team is in attendance and will be diving at the site as soon as conditions allow. The Lac du Bonnet Fire Department has been on scene assisting with the search. Manitoba Sustainable Development is also assisting, and access to the Old Pinawa Dam Heritage Park is restricted as the investigation continues.
