VCI JV girls win tournament

VCI Bears JV girls basketball team has an important win behind them.

With the basketball regular season drawing to a close the Virden Collegiate Bears Junior Varsity girls were happy with their win at the Neepawa tournament this past weekend.

The Bears beat Ste. Rose, Dauphin and then the team from The Pas in the finals.

“The girls were successful because they play smart basketball, strong defence, and work together very well,” says VCI coach Cody McPhee.

Fiona Garcia earned the tournament MVP award. McPHee said she racked up “about 30 points a game and set her teammates up for many more points.”

He said the season has been short, “with constant changes made, due to both Covid and weather.”

All four VCI basketball teams have a couple of games left. Playoffs begin in March where the goal is to make provincial competition.
