VCI Student Council report

We haven’t exactly just rung in the New Year but let’s get up to date from that point on. The past few months have been busy with exams and a new semester but we’re back in a rhythm.

Student Council teamed up with Elkhorn School and Reston School to sell Valentine’s Day Matchmakers. Students purchased computer printouts listing their compatibility with other
students within the school and within the division.

VCI Student Council also took part in the annual Staff Appreciation Week. They delivered jars of candy to the teachers and provided snacks and a lunch for all the staff one day that week.

Peer Tutors/Peer Helpers has continued with their drop-in study program, which happens twice a week. TADD organized their annual Valentine’s Day Candy- Gram sale. This fundraiser has TADD putting together bags of Valentine’s sweets for students to purchase and send throughout the school to other students or staff. The event was a huge success as usual.

Bears curling closed at the end of February with its Provincial Bonspiel in The Pas. We were represented by Brooks Freeman, Carson Langlois, Levi Rimke, and Will Draper who ranked
fourth in the end. Basketball is still in motion with Varsity Girls heading into provincials.

You can catch them in action March 19 to 21 in Sanford. Hockey has now come to a close with the boys finishing off in the playoffs in mid February.

The school band and choir have both held concerts over the last two months. The band performed at the Junior High for their annual winter concert and the choir just recently held
their performance on March 3 at the Aud Theater. Both groups will be competing at the Virden Music and Art Festival. VCI Band will perform on March 19. The school choir sings on April
13.

Check them out to see how hard they’ve worked and how well they sound. For the art portion of festival, VCI grade 9 and 10 art classes will be having their art displayed at the CP Station
Heritage Gallery in April.

Sadly, at the end of January we had to say good bye to our Brazilian exchange students who were with us for five months. Thamiris Acroverde, Ricardo Vinicius, Sabrina Bezerra, Talita Wanessa,
and Ramon Matheus came through the Win the World program and touched the  lives of students and staff at our school.

Grade 10 and 11 students trekked of to the Brandon Career Symposium to investigate universities, colleges, and other career paths in preparation for the next phase of their education.

Everyone pitched in to participate in Wellness Day. The headlining act was magician Anders Boulanger from Wawanesa. He was a great start to the day and made everyone laugh. There were
four sessions throughout the day and in between we went “grade on grade” in our Trivia Crack challenge. The Grade 10s were the victors and now have a free lunchfrom the canteen. Speaking
of lunch, Student Council provided and served pizza, subs, chips, and drinks on the day. The band Until Red played at lunch with a great set list. The day ended on a high note with lots of prizes
being handed out.
