Four Outstanding Students Recognized

Grade 9 Student of the Month: Julien Berg

Julien Berg is a student in Gr. 9 at VCI. He is 15 years old. He will most likely be on the high school’s honour roll after this year. His average after his first semester is 91 per cent, a very respectable mark.

He excels at and enjoys Physical Education class receiving a mark of 99 per cent, which he is proud of. He is planning to work towards achieving a Power Mechanic diploma and hopes to work at Four Seasons after school as an electrician or someone who repairs campers.

Berg sings with Sound Investment and is involved in the Addams Family Musical as Lurch, the family’s butler. He enjoys spending time with friends and family and in his spare time you can find him arm wrestling with them.

One of his favorite hobbies is fishing. He enjoys sword fighting/fencing with his family. You can find Berg working at his part-time job on Saturdays at Westwood Ranch near Kola.

He has a very adventurous, outdoorsy, active personality. Berg is your tough farm guy that has a sense of adventure. He is unique and adds quality at VCI.

Grade 10 Student of the Month: Brycen Reimer

Brycen Reimer is in Grade 10 at VCI at 16 years old. He does very well academically with his average being in the 90s and maintaining honor roll status. His favorite academic class would be Grade 11 Accounting because of his excellence in Math. He is also working towards the Business Diploma. He plans to go to Peace River Bible Institute in Alberta after High School. 

Reimer’s favorite class is Choir as he enjoys singing and performing. He is very musically inclined and is also in Band class and plays the trombone. He volunteered as the assistant director for the Virden and District Youth Choir for “High School Musical Jr.” His favorite part about VCI is definitely the music program, as well as the quality of teachers.

Here are a few things you should know about Reimer. Next year he is planning to volunteer at “The Hideout” and run the canteen. He is a big Jets fan and enjoys watching them in his spare time.

Grade 11 Student of the Month: Emily Cochrane

Emily Cochrane is 16 and a Gr. 11 student at VCI. She has been on the honor roll all throughout high school, including earning a 97 per cent in Gr. 11 Pre-Calculus Math, which she is very proud of. Her Gr. 10 average was 96.7 per cent which is phenomenal.

Her favorite class is Choir because it expands her musical understanding while expressing herself. She really enjoys math and science, especially physics because it mixes math and science. She enjoys learning and researching about history in her spare time and learning French as a second language.

Cochrane is on Student Council again this year. She is on the Social Justice Committee and enjoys getting involved with activities going on at VCI.

Cochrane sings alto in Sound Investment. She has been playing piano for the past 13 years and is in Gr. 8 piano. She also knows how to play the ukulele and melodica.

She swims competitively twice a week in Brandon with the Brandon Bluefins Swim Club. She is thinking about going into Architecture because it combines math, science and art. She also wants to travel the world at some point.

Cochrane works full-time at the Virden Pioneer Home Museum in the summer. She loves to travel in her free time, and she loves trying new things such as food and experiences. She enjoys visiting museums, which explains why she enjoys working at the local one. She is a very open-minded person with a great personality.

Grade 12 Student of the Month: Diana Pringle

Diana Pringle is a Gr. 12 student and 17 years old. She has been on the honour roll all through high school and her marks are in between 90-95 per cent. She loves any science class especially biology and enjoys math. She excels in English; she got 94 per cent overall in Gr. 12 Literary English.

Pringle is playing Alice Beineke in The Addams Family musical. She is a part of Sound Investment and plays the trumpet in band as well.

Here are a few interesting facts about Pringle. She works at the Co-op Deli and has probably cut your meat for you. She enjoys reading and watching movies in her spare time. She appreciates Wellness Day, Mini We Day and Gym Blast, anything that involves school spirit.

She volunteered at Goulter School with Grades 1, 2 and 3 as a teacher’s assistant.

Pringle is currently planning to go into Education, first at Steinbach Bible College and completing her education at BU. She wants to teach elementary and possibly high school later on.

Pringle is very positive; she likes to see the bright side of things. We wish her good luck in her schooling after VCI.
