Violence erupts at Moose Lake

In answer to a shooting that resulted in the death of a 34-year-old, Moose Lake RCMP have made an arrest.

Gun violence and threats in Moose Lake, a small community just over an hour’s drive east of The Pas, left a man dead and brought Major Crimes Services to the area over the weekend.

On Sept. 2, 2023, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Moose Lake RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the community. Officers arrived at the scene to find a 34-year-old male with life-threatening injuries. Police transported the victim to hospital where he was life-flighted to Winnipeg, where shortly after arriving, he succumbed to his injuries. His death is being treated as a homicide.

Due to ongoing violence and threats in the community, the “D” Division Emergency Response Team and North District CREST unit are in the community assisting Moose Lake Detachment by conducting check stops, patrolling and responding to calls. Moose Lake RCMP and Major Crime Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Services continued the investigation.
On Sept. 3, RCMP arrested and charged a 15-year-old male, from Mosakahiken Cree Nation, with 2nd Degree murder in relation to the Sept. 2 homicide of a 34-year-old male in the community. The youth was remanded into custody. Moose Lake RCMP, along with Major Crime Services, continue to investigate.

Moose Lake has a nursing station, a school, a restaurant and an RCMP station.
