Virden Light Horse Show awards winners

The August light horse show is a recent and welcome addition to the activities in Virden Agricultural Grounds, popular with competitors.

The 2023 Virden Light Horse Show took place on Aug. 7 in the riding arena on the fairgrounds. The show MGRA sanctioned show held 45 classes throughout the day in Halter, Trail, Showmanship, Lead Line, Walk/Trot, Costume, English Pleasure, Western Pleasure and speed events. The competition was evaluated by judges Christine Little and Judy Wood.

High point award winners, received bridle bags embroidered with the show and year details. These winners were Reese Atchison of Hartney (Pee Wee), Makayla Duthie of Deleau (Junior) and Brandi Mathison of Alexander (Senior). 

 

The Gold Buckle Futurity was also held in conjunction with the horse show. This competition was open to two and three-year-old horses purchased through Jack Auction Group (JAG), having been nominated as foals.

Three classes include Halter, Trail and Western Pleasure. In the three-year-old division, placing 1st - My Ultimate Best, owned by Carolyn Johnston, shown by Courtney Chapman and bred by Holley Gulenchyn. In the two-year-old division, standing 1st - COWBOY LOPIN owned by Colleen Chapman, shown by Kayleigh Ferland and bred by K&J Bridgeman.
