Virden RCMP investigating homicide at Sioux Valley Dakota Nation

A young woman, a member of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, has met an untimely death and another young woman has been charged.

On Dec. 10, at 12:20 a.m., officers from Virden RCMP received a report of a stabbing at a residence located on the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation.

Officers, along with EMS, attended and located a 26-year-old female, from Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation, with life-threatening injuries who was later pronounced deceased on scene.

The investigation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Rennie Kristyna Williams, from Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation, who was charged with Second Degree Murder in relation to this homicide. She was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 12, 2022, in Brandon.

Virden RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.

This is the second recent homicide within the community. On Nov. 19, RCMP arrested a man, 20, in connection with the death of a 30-year-old woman.
