Virden RCMP respond to weapons incident in Sioux Valley community

No one was injured but one man was taken into custody.

The threats were serious. This pellet gun was seized.

On July 20, at approximately 2:30 pm, Virden RCMP responded to a report of threats involving weapons at a residence on Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.

RCMP immediately attended and contained the area along with the assistance of the First Nation Safety Officers. RCMP Police Dog Services along with the Emergency Response Team were deployed to the scene.

Several adults and children were inside the residence. They exited the home safely.

A short time later the male suspect was located and arrested without incident.

The home was searched and officers seized a pellet gun.

Bruce Blacksmith, 41, has been charged with:

  • Pointing a Firearm x2
  • Uttering Threats x2
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

He was remanded into custody.
