Virden run supports skate park

The community turned out to help

About 100 competitors braved wet weather last Sunday, May 29, to take part in the 10th Anniversary Virden Run. This year's event, the first since 2019 due to COVID-19 cancellations, featured three different courses: a 3 km Family Fun Run as well as a 5 km and 10 km road race.  Funds raised will support Phase 2 of the Virden Skate Park.  

The top run of the day, capturing  gold in the male 10 km road race was Virden’s Brooks Freeman, in just over 43 minutes (43:22). Right behind him, Riley Jorgensen of Cromer captured silver (43:41) and Virden’s Ryan Lewis was awarded bronze (48:40). 
 gold medalist in the female category was Shaelyn Langlois of Virden completing the 10 km in 50:31minutes. Julie Mathieson, took silver (51:19) and Megan Wilson of Rocanville, Sask. won Bronze (54:15).

Tatiana Pribytkova of Virden took  gold in the 5 km race with a time of 29:38. Silver was Brittny Penner, Kola (30:04) and Angie Rhodes, Virden won bronze (34:23) 
There were no male entries in the 5 km race.  

Winners of the 3 km Family Fun Run (male) were Carter White, Virden with  gold time of 14:30 minutes, close behind came second and third: Crewe Holleman, Virden with silver (14:52); and Jaxson Stothers, Oak Lake won bronze (15:08).

In the female category, the 3km Family Fun Run winners were Mackenzie Masson, Oak Lake for gold (15:23); Emory Frizzley, Virden, bronze (16:19) and Meredith Masson, Oak Lake, silver (15:38)
