In a post to its Facebook page on Wednesday, Aug. 16, the Virden Demolition Derby committee announced that this year’s event, scheduled for Sunday, August 20, has been cancelled.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we are announcing that Demolition Derby 2023 is cancelled,” reads the statement. “We are currently unable to meet insurance requirements despite our best efforts and the efforts and hard work of the folks at the Town of Virden, R.M. of Wallace-Woodworth and Virden Indoor Rodeo Committee to try to make this event happen. Derby organizers will be in contact with all sponsors and any pre-registered drivers to return their funds.”
