Children at Virden Branch, Border Regional Library on Reading Day

As part of TD Canadian Children’s Book Week, May 8 - 12, Border Regional Library in Virden held a presentation for children.

Internationally published children's author, presenter and writing coach Rina Singh read stories and talked about writing with students from Funshine Day Care Centre.

Books changed her life

Singh was born in India and grew up in a small town where there were no public libraries. She went to a convent school run by Catholic nuns where the well-stocked school library stirred in her a love for books.

Singh studied English literature and immigrated to Canada in 1980. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from Concordia

TD Canadian Children’s Book Week is a national event celebrating Canadian children’s books and the importance of reading.

Border Regional Library applied for one of these authors to come to Virden branch and we were lucky enough to be successful.

Book Week is organized by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, in partnership with the Storytellers of Canada and is made possible through the support of sponsors.

The Canadian Children’s Book Centre is a national, not-for-profit organization for the promotion of Canadian books for young readers;  Storytellers of Canada is devoted to connecting people through the art of Storytelling.
