$52,000 USD is worth roughly $66,000 in Canadian funds.

During the week of Dec. 27, 2021 to Jan. 2, 2022, Westman RCMP dealt with 47 police activities.

Dec. 27 – RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of an assault. The victim called 911 to allege that her friend punched her in the body. Upon police arrival, the friend had departed the residence. The investigation is ongoing.

Dec. 28 – RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of a vehicle in the ditch. Upon police arrival, the vehicle driver displayed several signs of intoxication. The driver was arrested and read the breath demand. She was transported back to the Virden detachment for the purpose of providing a breath sample, however she refused to do so. The 40-year-old driver has been charged with operating a conveyance while impaired, and for refusing to provide a breath sample. She was released on a future Court date. Her vehicle was also impounded for 60 days.

Dec. 29 – RCMP received a report of a fraud that occurred in the RM of Two Borders. The victim was defrauded of approximately $52,000 U.S.D. The investigation is ongoing.

Dec. 30 – RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of a domestic assault. Subsequent to investigation, it was determined that a male victim was stabbed in the stomach. The male victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance. A 22-year-old female was arrested for aggravated assault and transported to the Virden detachment where she was later released via a release order with conditions to abstain from contacting and communicating with the victim. Once released from the hospital, the male victim was arrested for assault as it was alleged, he committed an assault stemming from the same incident. He was released on a future Court date, also with no contact conditions imposed.

Dec. 31 – RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report that bear spray was used at a house party. Upon police attending, none of the involved persons would speak with police.

Dec. 31 – RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of a disturbance. Upon attending, it was determined that an assault with what appeared to be an aluminum broom stick/pole occurred.  A 23-year-old male was arrested for assault with a weapon, and was remanded into custody.

Jan. 1 – RCMP were dispatched to a residence just outside of Virden for a report of a domestic assault. Subsequent to investigation, a 53-year-old male and a 49-year-old female were both arrested for assault. They were released on a future Court date on the condition they abstain from contacting/communicating with one another.

RCMP also responded to five traffic collisions, three false alarms, and six reports of abandoned vehicles over this reporting period.
