Wood Carvers

Members of Weyburn’s wood-carving group hosted wood carvers from other clubs for the annual Saskatchewan Carving ShareShop over the weekend at the Weyburn Public Library.

Carvers attended from Regina and Melfort along with the local group, and they spent the day Saturday and part of Sunday carving a project in the Allie Griffin Art Gallery.

For the ShareShop, a common project selected by the Weyburn club was worked on by all those in attendance. The project was a Scandinavian design of a fjord horse, or a traditional Dalecarlian horse design, with examples and photos provided to the members of what it should look like.

Wood carvers in Saskatchewan have been holding these ShareShops for the past 20 years, and this was the first time Weyburn had hosted it.

The ShareShop is a way for carvers to spend time together carving, sharing tips, ideas and techniques together, plus a number of the carvers brought examples of their wood-carving projects to display for the public and the other members to see.

The Weyburn club hosted the group for a supper on Saturday evening, and included a tour of the Soo Line Historical Museum as part of the two-day event.
