Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

It is the month of June,
The month of leaves and roses.
When pleasant sights salute the eyes
And pleasant scents the roses.
- Nathaniel Parker Willis
The wild roses we used to see along the sides of the road are fast disappearing. I am sorry about that because the scent was sooo good travelling along a country road. Then the rose hips come along a little later, and they are good for humans and animals alike. They are one of nature's richest sources of vitamin C, and have been used to combat infections such as cough, colds, flus and respiratory conditions. They help manage diabetes and boost immunity.
What's happening at Evergreen?
Gardeners are busy seeding and planting their garden plots. Marlene Balzar and I went to Ivy's to buy our plants. I am trusting the sun and rain to give me a good crop of champion tomatoes and jalapeño peppers.
Emmi Schneider went to Winnipeg with her daughter this last weekend to visit family there.
Harold and Lynda Spring were at their daughter's place in Pipestone for Sunday lunch. They extended their visit to get in a game of Yahtzee. Three cheers, Lynda. Harold says you won.
Margaret Rollo was away to Miniota to do some painting on their son's house. She always has to be busy.
Several residents went to the outdoor barbecue at St. Paul's church on Saturday. It was a warm, sunny day, just right for a good meal outside.
The heavy, steady rainfall on Sunday kept me home and I missed my great grandson's 5th birthday party in Elkhorn. Five friends took me out for breakfast on my birthday, May 28, at Valley View restaurant. Good meals with good friends.
Have a great weekend, the first one in June.
