Celebrate summer

Princess Lodge by Janice Simpson
Joyce Heaman attended the gathering at Hargrave community centre June 11, for the life celebration of Valerie Wall (nee Greig). Nice to see people Joyce hasn’t seen for a long time.
Rev. Liz Carter Morgan and Rachel and Isaac were invited to join us for coffee and cookies on Wednesday morning June 15. Joyce gave the children each a quilt. We wish them well on their move to Edmonton. Rev. Liz will be going to a United Church. We will miss her at Virden.
Sinclair choir came on the evening of June 21. We always enjoy their singing. We are having the birthday party June 28 from 3 to 4 p.m. with supper at 5 o’clock. Our entertainment will be Art and Debbie Maxwell.
Greatgrandma Janice attended the last exercises of play school for Kennedy Stuart on June 24 at the Oxford Assembly church. Kennedy will be 5 on October 25, and she will be going to kindergarten. Oh, how time flies!
This is my last report for two weeks. Have a nice summer and great holidays. Stay out of the hot sun.

Happy Canada Day. July 1 has been known as Canada Day since 1983, one year after Canada became fully independent. Canada is one of the oldest monarchies in the world. Since the 16th century Canada has had a queen or king. The motto of the Dominion of Canada is: "From Sea to Sea", the phrase comes from the Latin translation of Psalm 72:8 in the Bible.
This is the time of school graduations. Anne Lodder is going to Shoal Lake, Tuesday, to attend her grandson Jesse's Gr. 12 grad.
My 5 yr. old great-grandson Parker graduated from PreSchool on Friday, the 24th, at Elkhorn. What a group of happy, enthusiastic little grads we saw!
Coming home from grocery shopping one day this week I saw a vehicle here with a Beautiful British Columbia license plate. I was excited, someone will surely have company. After some enquiry I was told Carol Gabrielle's sisters from BC were here. So, as a news reporter, I went to Carol's suite. The first one to meet me was Kenner, a beautiful 7-yr.-old Golden Lab. Carol's company is her sisters Teresa Mund from Steveston Village in B.C., and Millie and Clare Gill of Blind Bay, B.C. We had a friendly visit and I was introduced to organic Lemon Ginger tea! Another of Carol's sisters of Winnipeg and her daughter Michelle are also coming this week. They will be having their own family Canada party this week.
Most of the Evergreen residents got their second Covid booster shots this past week.
The gardens here at Evergreen are out-of-this-world lovely. We may complain about the rain, but the gardens benefitted.
There will be no paper for the next two weeks, it's a much needed vacation for the editors and reporters. Lions Campground, here I come with books and bottled water for my vacation.
Quote for the Day: "God, keep our land, Glorious and free, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.” National Anthem

Karen Argue attended a wedding shower on June 26th in honour of her daughter, Loren Argue, bride elect of James Shaw. The shower was held at the home of Angie and Jaydon Steinwalt, south of Russell. The Miniota Community gift was a part of Loren’s gifts. Loren and James will be married on September 17th at Emerald Lake Lodge at Field BC.
A shower was held on June 26th at the new home of the bride and groom to honour Jessica Peters, bride elect of Jamie Sheane this summer. A beautiful afternoon for an outdoor shower.
Get well wishes are extended to Wendy Lelond who is a patient at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.
A Miniota Rodeo took place at the home of Desmond and Jaylene Stone in the valley a couple of weeks ago. Ryder Fenty, a 9 year old is a cowboy through and through and has dreams of riding in a rodeo. Ryder has spastic cerebral palsy. With the help of Courtney Muir and others, Ryder rode a horse in the rodeo that day. His smiles and waves to acknowledge his crowd said it all. His mother Tamra said, “It takes a village to make some of these dreams of Ryder’s come true.” Congratulations Ryder and thanks to his rodeo team who made this dream come true for this young cowboy!
Closing exercises for the Miniota Elementary School students was held on June 29th. Best wishes go with our lone graduate, Maddox Couvier, heading to Birtle Collegiate this fall. We wish all our students, staff and parents a wonderful summer, a time to rejuvenate. Enjoy!
“Today will never come again. Be a blessing. Be a friend. Encourage someone. Take time to care. Let your words heal, and not wound.”
