Kenton By Karen Anderson

Well, I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable summer so far-it is hard to believe that it is nearly August.

It has been great to have so many events and activities in July. It was nice to see the return of most events at the local fairs. It was a busy week for residents involved in the Milk Run fairs, finishing with Harding Fair on the Friday.

Chair Yoga with Deanne Grant-Weisberg finished on June 27. There was a favourable response so we hope to resume sessions in September.

Canada Day was celebrated in Kenton started with the pancake breakfast served by the Kenton Kraftsmen 4-H Club. After breakfast the Kenton Lions Club held their annual car rally with over 130 rally cards sold. Harding Ag Society had their annual pit barbecue supper that included pork and beef roasts with potatoes and multiple salads in the Kenton Hall. Music followed in the beer gardens at the Legion. The Woodworth Millennium Museum in Kenton was also open for visitors.

Breadalbane Annual Church Service was held on July 9.

Two members of the WSS Board celebrated their 80th birthdays recently: Margaret Sangster was celebrated with a come and go tea on June 17 at the Kenton Memorial Hall and Phil Graham had a Birthday Party on July 14 at the Kenton Legion Clubroom.

The World Clydesdale Show was held in Brandon at the Keystone Centre July 19-23. Senior Day was July 19 with free admission. It was the first time the show was held in Western Canada.

A sad note to end my news:

Margaret Sangster passed away on Monday, July 24 at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Margaret was a board member and treasurer for the Woodworth Senior Services for many years. She was very involved in the community. She will be missed. Condolences to her family: Wenda Best (Donald), Carolyn Nykoliation (Allan) and Bruce Sangster (Chelsey) and their families and also to her brother Lloyd Hopley and his wife Ihros.

Miniota By Linda Clark

Sympathy is extended to Rodney, Bonita, Brooke and Karli Frederick and to Rodney’s siblings Sheila, Troy and Teresa and their families on the death of their dad and grandpa Albert Frederick.

Our community also extends sympathy to Bill and Sheryl Hurlin and family, Texas and Rick and Wendy Hurlin and family, of B.C. on the death of their mother and grandma Mary Hurlin at the WestMan Nursing Home in Virden. As well, we extend our sympathy to Mary’s sisters Sharon (Bob McKenzie) and to Pat Moldowan, of Stonewall, and their families.

Kevin and Julie Halipchuk, Aidan, Reese and Carley, of Ottawa, visited with Linda Clark and family. Linda, Julie, Cherilynn, Trevor and their families travelled to Daryl and Melanie Clark’s at Ituna, Sask. for a visit, and to celebrate Daryl and Mel’s 25th wedding anniversary. As well Scott and Donna Gammack, of Garson Man. and Harold Reid of Brandon came for the weekend celebrations.

Wishing everyone a very happy August long weekend! The summer is flying by and the combines are going to be humming shortly as the crops are ripening fast with little rain in some areas.
