Broken clay pigeons and lead can be found south of Brandon where the 60th Canadian National Trapshooting Championship was held from July 1 to 5. It was held at Brandon’s trapshooting gun club and there were 138 shooters this year. The four-day tournament consisted of each shooter shooting 1000 targets through the whole event. Thanks to the smoke that we had for the majority of those days, it was difficult for the shooters to see and it negatively affected some of their scores.

Virden was represented by a group of eight contestants; Matt and Rodney Stuart, Barry Marshall, Dallas George, Richie Joynt, Dwain Mushmanski, Billy Gould and Corey Martin.

The first Canadian National Trapshooting Event was held back in 1955. Brandon still holds the record for most shooters ever at a Canadian national with 504 shooters in 1985.
