Manitoba Ranch Rodeo Finals

Local competitors score high

Mother and daughter, Carla McCallum and Ottlie from Virden area took home some honours from the Manitoba Ranch Rodeo Finals this year, held at Hamiota over the weekend, Sept. 8 and 9.

Ten-year-old Ottlie and her horse Banjo received the Top Youth Horse award – a blanket sponsored by Covenant Ranch from Kola. Ottlie also won the Finals and Year End Pee Wee Goat Tying buckle, as well as the Year End Barrel Racing buckle.

Carla McCallum won Ladies Goat Tying and stood fourth overall in Ladies Barrel Racing.

McCallum competed with JK Ranching and Dunham Backhoe Services. The two teams finished up as runner-up and third place for the year’s standing.

Other nearby locals, Ken Nolan and son Caden competed on the JK Ranching team as well. Caden was 3rd overall for year-end junior roping.

Seven teams competed; other high-lights were Top Mugger - Denton Marsh; Top Ranch Hand - Roger Dunham; Rodeo of the Year - Wawota Valley Rodeo.
