The Virden Oil Capitals are on the road this weekend.
They play in Steinbach on Friday and take on Winnipeg on Sunday. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League team is back in Virden on Jan. 9 to host Portage. The OCN Blizzard come to town on Jan. 11.
The Oil Capitals kicked off their 2018 schedule with a Wednesday contest against Winkler. This was played after the Empire-Advance deadline.
Virden entered the MJHL’s Christmas break with a 22-11-2-0 record. Right before the break, the Oil Capitals fell 3-2 to Steinbach and beat Winnipeg, 5-3.
After scoring the first goal of his MJHL career against Steinbach, rookie defenceman Jayden Wojciechowski had a goal and an assist in the win over Winnipeg. Jeran Knorr also had two points in the victory.
