Football Report

Virden’s Tre Panachyse was thrilled to be back on the gridiron this past fall.

The 2016 Virden Collegiate Institute graduate did not play any sports in his first year out of high school. This past season he suited up for the Westman Wolverines. The Brandon-based squad competes in the Manitoba Major Junior Football League.

When asked what he enjoyed most about playing for the Wolverines, the son of Sandra Panachyse said: “Just loved coming back to the game of football.”

Panachyse played as a reserve middle linebacker. He helped the Wolverines go 4-4 and to make the league playoffs for the first time since 2013.

On the Wolverines, he was reunited with such former VCI teammates as Dustien Siemens and Nathan Price.

“Playing football with Dustin and Nathan was great! Good to be back out on the field with them,” Panachyse said. “It's always good getting to know other people on the team.”

During his football career, Panachyse always knew at least one person would be cheering him on. His mother had been a constant support.

“She has been my number one fan and has kept me motivated to continue on with sports,” he said.

Panachyse juggled playing football with his studies. He currently lives in Winnipeg and is in the University 1 program at the University of Manitoba. He still loves to play football. What does he like best?

“The adrenaline, it was also very helpful with getting rid of stress and depression.”
