Horses and their people, along with a few mascots filled the fairgrounds in Virden, August 20 and 21. This was Rodeo weekend, and in conjunction with that, the Manitoba Barrel Racing Association Open Jackpot saw 77 entries competing in a 4D format in the outdoor ring.

The top scores in the first division (1D) were Megan Ellison on Moonshine, completing the barrel pattern in 15.11 seconds. Shauna Peters on Earl was 15.28 seconds; Kylie Gompf and Jet finished in 15.33 seconds and Angela Tapp on Charli ran 15.34.

Next ranked Tanis Klippenstein, Christine King, Laura Comarty and KC Peters all finishing in the 1D, under 15.46 seconds.

Kylie Gompf and Pickles won the 2D with 15.65 seconds.

Mandie Taylor, Kelsie Howell and Leah Obach, along with a crew of volunteers made this event run smoothly for competitors and the audience at the MBRA event on Saturday and Sunday.

There were 15 competing in the Youth Jackpot.

Adding to the competition and giving young horses a go, were veteran barrel racers with many wins in their back pocket such as Rick White from Oak Lake and Elaine Hyde from Alida, SK.
