Melody Kroeker, from Kenton and a brown belt SW Judo student, will be participating in a national competition this May in Calgary, AB. Kroeker will partake in Senior Women’s, and 21 and Under categories. Kroeker says she is excited about the competition. She is looking forward to being with friends and meeting new people.

Kroeker is an accomplished Judo student on the Manitoba Provincial Team. She started Judo at age seven and will be turning 18 years old this June. This determined and dedicated young woman says she has stuck with Judo for so long because, “It’s lots of fun and I meet a lot of good people.”

Kroeker has competed in national competitions twice in the past, as well as two international competitions in Canada. She also participated in the Western Canada Summer Games two summers ago. “Every time Melody goes to a competition, she always comes back with improved skills,” says Kroeker’s proud father Walter.

Kroeker hopes to make the top three at the nationals in Calgary at the end of May, which will offer the possibility of going overseas to an international competition. She will be attending a four day national training camp in Calgary following this year’s national competition. The camp will help officials decide which Judo students will go to internationals.
