The Oilers, 4-1 on the season as of Sunday, suffered their first loss, 9-4, to the Hamiota Red Sox on the road on May 30.

They bounced back to thump Souris 7-2 and Wawanesa 14-3 in a Sunday double header.

Curtis Plett and Jeff Peel pitched complete game wins for Virden and combined for 23 strikeouts.

Virden plays next at home against the Reston Rockets at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, then at Rivers on June 10 and in Oak River on June 13.

Elkhorn Expos

Elkhorn’s Friday contest against Reston was postponed due to weather.

On Sunday, the Expos fell in both games of a doubleheader. They lost 7-5 to Hartney in an extra inning. The Hoppers scored twice in the top of the eighth. Bradley Bowles and Steve Bonchuk each drove in two runs for the Expos.

In the night cap, Souris got by Elkhorn, 3-1. Elkhorn is 1-3 on the season.

The Expos are at Oak River on June 8 and in Hamiota on June 10.
