Virden Velocity had three teams this year: A Beginner II team with 13 skaters ages 5-11; an Elementary team with 12 skaters ages 7-12; and an Adult II team.
The youth teams are coached by Tricia Hayward. The Adult team is coached by Meghan McKinnon, who also skates on the team.
This year the youth teams attended the Skate Canada Manitoba Synchro Championships in Beausejour in January. The Beginner II team scored silver, the Elementary team placed bronze.
The Prairie Regional Synchronized Skating Championships was held in Stonewall where the Beginner II team scored silver and the Elementary team placed second.
Regina competition
All three Virden teams attended the Living Skies Synchroskate Invitational in Regina. At this competition, the teams had two opportunities to skate.
The Beginner team scored a silver and a bronze while the Elementary team placed first. The Adult team did very well and were extremely happy with their first competition of the season.
The last competition was hosted by Skate Brandon and held in Souris, the Skate Canada Manitoba Crocus Invitational. Our Beginner II team scored silver, the Elementary team placed second, and the Adults came home with a gold!
Team Spirit award
At the final competition, our teams were able to pick the Team Spirit award recipient as we won the trophy at last year’s competition. We were happy to give the award to the Pembina Pizzaz teams - well deserved as they cheered for everyone and even went so far as to pass out well wishes on notes etc.
In addition to the competitions, the teams all performed at our Skate Virden Year End Gala. The youth teams were thrilled to skate during the intermission of an Oil Capitals game in February.
They also hosted a Synchro showcase during practice time - a little event to show the season programs for family and friends.
