Virden’s newest curling league showed visiting curler Rob Swan how it’s done last Friday.

Swan was in Virden to curl a game with the Daytime Stick League. And although he and his temporary partner Carol Anne Trowell made an excellent team, they went down in good-natured defeat to Rick and Brenda Smith.

Swan has been visiting and curling in rinks across the country for four years, raising money for his own hometown club in Harvey Station, New Brunswick. He even earned a Guinness World Record in the process, curling in ten countries in just 11 days.

Swan now lives and works in BC, but on his time off he travels to curling rinks across Canada, spreading his love of the game.

After Virden Curling Club, he was scheduled to play with local teams in Moosomin, SK and then Holland, MB.

Virden’s Daytime Stick League is in its first year and already has almost two dozen members, most of whom turned out Friday, Nov. 24 to meet Swan and curl a game.
