Selkirk RCMP have arrested a 13-year-old male from Selkirk and are looking for a 12-year-old male in relation to two separate fires.

Selkirk RCMP have arrested a 13-year-old male from Selkirk and are looking for a 12-year-old male in relation to two separate fires.

On May 8, 2017, at approximately 8:50 pm, RCMP received a report of a dump truck on fire at a business on Pittsburg Avenue. There were no injuries, but there was extensive damage to the truck and to a nearby vehicle.

On May 9, 2017, at approximately 6:10 pm, RCMP were dispatched to another report of a fire. The canteen at the stadium in Selkirk Park was destroyed. There were no injuries.

It was determined that the fires were deliberately set.

The 13-year-old male is charged with three counts of Arson for the two vehicles and the canteen. He has been released pending a future court date.

“We take this very seriously,” said Selkirk RCMP Staff Sergeant Marc Samson. “We’re very fortunate there were no injuries in these instances, even though there was extensive property damage. Fire is unpredictable and very dangerous – someone could be seriously injured or even lose their life.”

The investigation continues.
