Excellence Award for Top Attendance recipients: (l-r) Tyson Schwalm, Jacob

The final school month of Virden Junior High was once again very busy and exciting.

The We Act students participated in a Water Walk on the 12th, to raise awareness for those in countries who don’t have access to fresh, clean water and have to haul it for their own use. The group tied water buckets to scarves and carried them on their heads for the walk.

The final Excellence Assembly was on the 17th and many awards were given out; including the sports awards and specific academic course awards. Top attendees were also recognized at the assembly for their Perfect Attendance. These three students were given an iPad mini or a bike. Congratulations to all students who won awards.

The healthy school committee also set up some swim times for the students. These were great times when two Grades at a time went over to enjoy the pool for an hour.

The Grade 8 students all met at the High School to go through a quick walkthrough of what their timetable would be like when they head there in the fall. The students met their homeroom teachers and were given an introduction to expectations of high school students. They then had an opportunity to find their classrooms and meet each of their course teachers. Even with that quick introduction there will be some lost Grade 9 students on the first day of school in September.

June 26 was our Reward afternoon which was put on by student council. The entire school was put on teams and we had huge water fights with organized games. It was a great afternoon and the weather really cooperated this year.

June 29, was our Awards Ceremony. This was a time to recognize all of the Grade 8 students who will transition to the high school, and where they said good-bye to the teachers and thanked them for all the years we spent together. This assembly also recognizes top achievers for the whole year. The whole school said ‘good luck’ to Mr. Thiessen at his new job at the school division and we also said good-bye to a wonderful teacher who will be missed; but we wish her the best retirement - thank you for everything Mrs. Poole.

VJH is excited to welcome our new principal for next year, Mr. Nahachewsky. Everyone is excited to hear all your ideas and plans for the future of our school.

Thank you to all the teachers for a great four years; all of the Grade 8 students will miss you as we go on to the high school for a new chapter in our life. I wish everyone a great summer.
