Thursday, Feb.8 Elkhorn Elks Hall was the scene of a golden milestone. Syd Parsons of Virden was awarded a 50-year pin for his many dedicated hours as a member of the Elkhorn Elks No. 381 and the Elks of Canada.

Elkhorn’s president, Kevin Tutthill presented Parsons his beautiful Gold Pin, and read a note of congratulations from the National President of the Elks of Canada, Deborah Sallenback, that in part read,

“To have members maintain their membership for half a century is a testament that the Elks of Canada is the best organization in Canada. With members like yourself our Order will no doubt continue to serve our communities well into the future. Thank you again for your continued service.”

For many years Parsons was an active member in our lodge, helping with many community activities, working many socials here in the hall, and spent many hours cutting wood in the late 70s and early 80s in an effort to pay off the Hall mortgage. Parsons has since retired to Virden, and tries to make it back to Elkhorn for as many meetings and get-togethers as he can.

After the meeting a light lunch and camaraderie was enjoy by the members.
