Team players include Riley Demas, Davis Thompson, Sam Cosgrove, Tyler Hunter, Dylan Heritage, Cohen Dryden, Michael Vachon , Tyson Schwalm, Christopher Heaman, Travis Gillis, Dreyson Potter, Tyson Andrew, Ryder Langevin, Chase Forsyth, Christian Lansing, Shane Price, Garett Krieser, Ethan Penman.

Teams from throughout Manitoba will play some of their best games of the season in Virden this weekend, Friday through Sunday, when for the first time in 10 years, Virden hosts provincial hockey.

Playing for Virden, hockey fans can cheer for the home team starting mid-morning Friday.

Head coach is Dale Lansing and assistants Joanthon Lansing and Ryan Potter. Team players include  Riley Demas, Davis Thompson, Sam Cosgrove, Tyler Hunter, Dylan Heritage, Cohen Dryden, Michael Vachon     , Tyson Schwalm, Christopher Heaman, Travis Gillis, Dreyson Potter, Tyson Andrew, Ryder Langevin, Chase Forsyth, Christian Lansing, Shane Price, Garett Krieser, Ethan Penman.

In regular season play team stats are 9 wins, 12 losses and 2 ties.

At the grand opening held Friday afternoon two referees are will be honoured. Longtime Virden refs Ken Buchy and Bill Hayward are retiring their stripes after 35 years.

Stan Harvey, a veteran of hockey and former principal in Virden, is going to be presenting those awards on behalf of Hockey Manitoba.

These provincial playoffs are sponsored by Hockey Manitoba and Cargill and with teams from Rivers, Altona, Gimli, Swan Valley, Grunthal, Beausejour and Brandon, will bring well over 100 families to town throughout the weekend.

Medal play will take place Sunday afternoon.(see classified for details)
