Driving away hunger for local food bank

The totals are in and Virden area and Elkhorn have again generously supported Farm Credit Canada’s (FCC) Drive Away Hunger. A hearty donation of $729 and 1,262 pounds of non-perishable food were delivered to Virden & Area Food Cupboard, with the help of the Virden Oil Capitals hockey players doing the lifting.

Virden’s FCC along with corporate partners BDO and MNP, plus schools in Elkhorn and Virden began collections around Thanksgiving.

FCC also received a donation from Ed and Patti Paull of 133 lbs.

National stats

According to Food Banks Canada, more than 4 million Canadians – both working and unemployed – live with food insecurity and hunger. FCC Drive Away Hunger as of Oct. 23, has seen $334,641 collected in Manitoba, towards a Canada-wide total of $9.5 million.

Food banks and school feeding programs in Canada are directly benefited by 100 per cent of the campaign.
