Elkhorn’s Kassidy Johnson was pleased to compete recently with many of Manitoba’s top bantam female hockey players.

She was selected for and took part in Hockey Winnipeg’s Bantam AA Female All-Star Game on Jan. 25. A defenceman, Johnson represented the Yellowhead Chiefs.

“I really enjoyed getting to play with different girls,” Johnson said. “Also, the change of pace in the game was really exciting. It was a very fast game. But most of all, it was really just an honor to be asked to play in the All-Star game. It was an unforgettable experience.”

Johnson’s Team White fell 6-3 to Team Black. Johnson said it was very different being teammates with players who are usually opponents.

“I was nervous at the start, worrying about rivalries,” she said. “But once we started to play, it was just fun! Playing with new girls is a great experience. Who knows, I may end up playing with some of them someday. “

In addition to playing in the Winnipeg league, the Chiefs compete in Hockey Manitoba’s AAA Showcase weekends and will play in the Rural AAA Bantam provincial tournament.
