This week we say farewell to RCMP Staff Sergeant Steve Sumner as he is transferring to be the District Advisor NCO in Brandon where he will oversee five or six detachments. In reflection of his time spent here in the Virden region Sergeant Sumner states, “I’ve been out here a long time. I love it here. I’ve told the council many times how much I love the people here. Two three summers ago when we had the flooding, everybody is out sand bagging and helping each other out. It’s a different mentality [then in the big cities], I like it so much better here.”

After going through the police report Sergeant Sumner went on to add about his transfer, “Usually by the time I’m leaving I’m climbing the walls trying to get out, this is the first time out of all the moves I’ve made that I’m leaving a place I still love. I love working here, I love the town, I love the council, the [RCMP] staff here are awesome, Virden is lucky. I’ve been all over and this is the best crew I’ve had.”

To Sergeant Sumner, we wish you the best on your transition into your new position. We thank you and the rest of the Westman RCMP staff for all of your hard work and dedication to keeping the region safe and looking out for the citizens of the area.
