Lenore 4H Beef Club showed, sold outstanding cattle

Nearly 20 steers auctioned

Members of the Lenore 4-H Beef Club were busy on July 7 at the Virden Agricultural Grounds preparing their 4-H animals for the Club Achievement show. The club is 23 members strong and was happy they were able to complete their 4-H year with the show and sale.

Carman and Donna Jackson from Inglis, Man. were the judges, with Amanda Scott as ring person and Donna George kept the day on track as M.C.

The day started with steer and heifer judging classes. The judges gave some tips to the members to help them complete their judging cards. Melissa Atchison judged and calculated the scores for each member’s card.  

Steer Judging:

Cloverbuds – 1st Will Elliott; 2nd Lincoln Judd

Junior – 1st Casey George; 2nd Recklan Gabrielle

Intermediate – 1st Dominique Lansing; 2nd Lucy Boynton

Senior – 1st Jaylin Hill; 2nd Christian Lansing


Heifer Judging:

Cloverbuds – 1st Will Elliott; 2nd Laney George

Junior – 1st Jake Muir; 2nd Recklan Gabrielle

Intermediate – 1st Lane Nykoliation; 2nd Ty Nykoliation

Senior – 1st Jaylin Hill; 2nd Tyler Scott


Continuation Heifer Class– Grand Champion, Casey George; Reserve Grand Champion, Owen Mytopher.

Continuation Calf Class- Grand Champion, Jayda Gabrielle; Reserve Grand Champion, Ricki Hill.

Pee Wee Class- all four members showed calves; the judges were so impressed they awarded a prize to all.

Yearling Heifers: born between Jan.1 - Feb.25, Jake Muir and Laney George placed first and second; born between March 9 - May 5, Ricki Hill and Ty Nykoliation placed first in the second.

Grand Champion Heifer, Ricki Hill; Reserve Grand Champion, Jake Muir.



Peewees all earned a prize. 

Senior Showmanship - Jaylin Hill,1st; Tyler Scott 2nd.  

Intermediate Showmanship - Ty Nykoliation 1st; Jayda Gabrielle, 2nd

Junior Showmanship - Casey George 1st; Jake Muir 2nd. 

Cloverbud Showmanship - Will Elliott 1st; Laney George 2nd.

Light Weight – Ty Nykoliation 1st; Lucy Boynton 2nd.

Medium Weight - Casey George 1st; Leah Mytopher 2nd.

Heavy Weight - Casey Nykoliation 1st; Ricki Hill 2nd.

Reserve Grand Champion - Casey Nykoliation  

High Gaining - Lane Nykoliation with his steer gaining 675 lbs;

Second High Gaining - Casey Nykoliation with his steer gaining 670 lbs.

The day ended with the steer sale at Heartland Livestock Services, with a few tears from the kids but lots of support from the buyers for the members. All the members had a great day and were proud of their accomplishments.
