Maguire to talk federal budget in Virden

Public invited Jan. 17

Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris is inviting everyone to an upcoming budget consultation meeting in Virden on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Lions Hall.

The evening meeting, which starts at 7 p.m., will be an opportunity to discuss what local residents would like to see included in Budget 2018 and ensure the voice of Westman is heard loud and clear in Parliament.

“My aim for the budget consultation meeting will be to hear directly from constituents on their priorities,” said Maguire. “I encourage everyone to come and share their views and ideas.”

During the meeting, there will be an update on Canada’s finances and debt levels, and discussion on issues such as income and business taxes to support seniors and students. Private sector job creation and infrastructure for Westman will also be at the forefront of the meeting, which includes agriculture and international trade.

There has been great interest from local residents about the Liberal government’s tax hikes and spending record. Maguire’s office was flooded with calls and emails from individuals who were irate at the Trudeau administration for targeting entrepreneurs and farm families. In particular, the Liberal tax hike proposals that were floated out in the summer drew the attention of hundreds of individuals who inundated Bill Morneau’s office with emails.

The MP said, “It was astounding how many rallied in opposition to the proposed Liberal tax hikes. The people of Westman are passionate about public policy and are certainly not afraid of letting me know where they stand on issues being debated in Parliament.”

Maguire has held numerous townhalls across the constituency on issues ranging from electoral reform to the legalization of recreational marijuana, reaching out to constituents on important matters in front of Parliament.

Maguire concludes, “The budget consultation meeting will allow everyday Westman residents to come together and share their views on a wide range of issues. I strongly believe the voice of Westman can be heard in Parliament.”
