Moose are on the move

Wallace District Fire Department respond to incidents last weekend

Friday night Virden Firefighters responded to a collision between a car and a moose. Fire Chief Brad Yochim said, “The driver was okay, but the moose did not survive.” The collision occurred on Highway #1 near Highway #83 north.

Elkhorn firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident Friday night, May 8, on Highway #1 near Kirkella. There were minor injuries.

Saturday night, May 9, Elkhorn firefighters responded to a false alarm at a home in Kola.

RCMP report

During the week of May 4 - May 11, the Westman RCMP dealt with 65 police activities.

May 5 - RCMP are investigating a fraud. A person had sent an e-transfer for the purchase of items online. The seller then blocked the buyer without the exchange of property being made. RCMP would like to remind people, especially with the increase of online shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that they are taking the proper precautions to not fall victim to any fraudulent activities.

May 6 - RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of property damage. Upon attendance, police learned that a 32-year-old male from Sioux Valley had caused damage to a vehicle and was breaching previous release conditions. He was charged and released for a future court date.

May 6 - RCMP were advised of a grass fire that was encroaching on residence in Sioux Valley. The Sioux Valley Fire Department were able to respond and extinguish the blaze before any damage was caused to residences.

May 7 - RCMP were dispatched to a business in Virden for a report of a theft of property. The suspect has been identified and will be facing charges of theft under $5000 once arrested.

May 8 - RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Sioux Valley for a report of an assault. As a result of the investigation, a 48-year-old male from Sioux Valley has been charged with assault and will be appearing in court at a later date. The investigation into the matter is continuing.

May 10 - RCMP conducted a curfew check on an offender in Sioux Valley who is on a court-imposed curfew. The offender was found to be in breach of this condition and will be facing a charge of failing to comply with a release order.

RCMP dealt with 16 traffic enforcement actions and four traffic collisions during this reporting period.
