Murray Wright: Candidate profile

Mayoral candidate, Virden
wright
Murray Wright, candidate for Virden mayor

I was born and raised in Virden.  I am married to Sandra and we have raised three sons and a daughter and now have six grandchildren.   I have been involved with sports my whole life including hockey and baseball. I am semi-retired yet actively involved in the community.

My customer service experience is extensive, I’m very approachable and extremely personable. I have worked with the public for many years having owned/operated businesses in Manitoba, British Columbia and Alberta.

I was a Virden councillor from 2010-2014. I feel my experiences will be a huge asset for the role of Mayor.

A few of my volunteer roles include:

  • Virden Jr “A” Oil Caps,
  • Virden Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8,
  • Border Regional Library,
  • Prairie West Recreation,
  • Virden Age Friendly,
  • Concerned Citizens for Quality Health Care.

Why would I want to run for mayor? “To move Virden into the future for our upcoming generations”

I’m just a community member like YOU ready for a change; but I’m ready to step up and LEAD the change.  I would like to expand on our relationship with the RM of Wallace-Woodworth.  I like to look at the bigger picture and think outside the box to broaden our business base in town.

After speaking with many Virden residents I’ve heard loud and clear that the following issues are huge concerns and I plan to prioritize them: the bridge on PTH 257, our town streets, the future cost of the water treatment plant and the need for a pedestrian crossing on King St. near Virden Junior High.
