Businesses are opening up. That includes thrift shops.
Although they weren’t considered essential, people have missed the interest of shopping at thrift stores; and for some it’s their go-to for clothing and other items. People come to town, just to shop at Virden’s thrift stores where furniture items, books, toys, trinkets as well as shoes and clothing come at an affordable two or three bucks.
One of the three Virden Thrift-shop owners, Connie Hay thinks people have really missed not being able to shop thrift. “I’ve had a few people say they’re having withdrawal,” she says.
With the change of seasons upon us, what do you do with things that really shouldn’t hit the dump?
There are conflicting values to satisfy. On the one hand we hear municipal officials say they would like to see much more going to recycling (which includes re-use/re-purpose) and much less going to landfills. But, COVID-19 kept both people and thrift donations at bay.
During spring cleaning (in full swing during COVID-19 cloistering), what do you do with your unnecessary items (junk)? With clothes that need to find a new home?
The weather is warming - time for a new round of clothing.
At Rosa’s Second Time Around, owned Val Smith is scurrying around her store, tidying up and changing seasonal merchandise from snowsuits to swim suits, digging out the shorts and tee inventory. She’s been wiping counters and preparing for COVID-19 protocol and plans to re-open Wednesday, May 6.
“The biggest thing is tor the customers to adhere to the social distancing,” she said.
Hay’s store, It’s All Good, is going to be open next week, Tuesday May 5 and she’s looking forward to that. “If I can be open, I will be.”
Expect to see signage on her store explaining the protocol for shopping.
The thrifts are also able to accept donation items - clean and in excellent condition. That way, one person’s junk becomes another person’s treasure.
