The 131st Oak Lake Agricultural Fair will be held Saturday, July 22 at the Oak Lake Fair Grounds.
Friday evening at the Oak Lake town hall will be live music with Leona and Friends, food and fireworks at dusk.
In honour of Canada’s 150th celebration, the fair will host numerous special events: a “Milk Run Canada 150 Special”, a vintage container promoting heritage or Heirloom plants. The vegetables, flowers, or herbs will be something seen 150 years ago. “Canada from Coast to Coast”, will feature a collection including one baked item from the four main regions of Canada (Pacific, Prairie, Eastern, and Atlantic), as well as, the “Canada’s Bread Basket Through the Ages” . There will also be a Canada 150 Junior Special, any cereal and/or edible sculpture depicting any wild Canadian animal or bird.
A pancake breakfast will take place early Saturday morning at the fairgrounds, with a parade to follow at 10:00 a.m. The opening ceremonies will be held at the grand stand at the fairgrounds after the parade.
The Oak Lake Lions Canteen will be available all day Saturday, and a noon cold beef meal will also be held.
Among the many events at the fair, there will be exhibits for livestock, cooking, sewing, horticulture, and art.
The 4-H Beef Club will have their show and steer sale. A “Food for the future Project” will take place on Saturday.
The fair hosts numerous children’s activities such as Meandher Creek Farm, a pig scramble, a variety of games, and bouncers. Beer gardens will be available, and a slow pitch tournament will take place.
There will be a Chili Cook-Off, tractor pull, a cold plate supper, and a free family outdoor concert on Saturday evening at the grand stand area.
