Police dog tracked suspect on Waywayseecappo, led to arrest

Thanks to the K-9 unit, there was a timely resolution to a call from Waywayseecappo on March 28. 

It was dark,  9:30 p.m.,  when Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a local residence on Waywayseecappo First Nation, Man. where a suspect was arrested without violence, with the help the K-9 unit.

Arriving at the residence, the MFNPS officers were met by a pregnant woman who told them she had been assaulted.

The man had fled on foot. Officers determined he was known to Police to have two outstanding Unendorsed Warrants for his arrest with approximately nine charges total.

MFNPS K-9 Unit was called in. K-9 CETO was deployed, tracking the suspect from a basement window of the home, to approximately 200 metres away, where the track led to the front door of a residence.

Police located the suspect inside the home. The man gave himself up to police without incident.

The suspect, a 31-year-old male was located inside and taken into custody. He faces the following charges.

▪ Assault (x2)

▪ Flight from police while being pursued

▪ Drive while disqualified

▪ Fail to comply with conditions of recognizance (x3)

▪ Failed to attend court

▪ Being unlawfully in a dwelling

The suspect has been remanded into custody to appear at court.
