Princess Lodge by Bernice Graham

(Editor’s Note: Princess Lodge news was scheduled for March 20 paper; events occurred prior to recent COVID-19 advisories)

Recent visitors with Marge Tapp were Barry and Donna Kinnaird of Cochrane, Alta.

Addie Young’s daughter, Kathy Ritchie of Morden, visited here last week.

Last Saturday, Ray and Kim Everett of Brandon visited with Ethel Bowles and Donna Everett.

To thrive in life, you need three bones: a wish bone, a backbone and a funny bone.

Due to a paint job last week there was no news. A great way to start spring cleaning and because everyone is confined to their homes it maybe an inspiration to clean, paint or to sort through STUFF to keep from getting bored due to the COVID-19 virus.

The piano festival was held at Hamiota a few weeks ago with several Miniota children taking part. Also, several attended the dance festival in Virden.

Faye Campbell spent four days in Virden hospital with vertigo. She has recovered and is back to many activities.

The Senior Birthday Party was held at the Drop In on March 18 at 2:30. Twelve people that attended enjoyed a St. Patrick’s Day word search, guess the Irish tones played by Faye and a Leprechaun Skit with three little Leprechaun's played by Glen and Marg Still and Faye Campbell.

Doreen Clark read some Irish poems and Laurie Copet was the M.C. People with March Birthdays who attended where Dot Argue and Donna Gardham. Six others that were invited missed out on a very interesting day. A green angel food cake with topping was enjoyed with visiting afterwards.

The next day the Miniota Drop In was closed due to the COVID-19 virus until further notice.

The Miniota Motel and Cafe is closed except for take-out.

The hair salon is closed, so we may all have a different look, depending on how long it is closed, with longer hair or if we get at it ourselves with a snip here or there.

The Parkisimo Lodge meeting was canceled but the cook for the Lodge, Brenda Still, will be delivering meals to the residents’ room doors.

I'm sure life for parents with little ones will be quite different since the schools closed last week, March 20.

With such spring like weather, and being confined, many people are getting out for several walks a day as the temperatures are getting a little warmer, except for some breeze, and up to plus eight on March 23.

We hope everyone abides by the rules for our own health's sake.

I will close with a quote from our calendar: "The highest reward for a person's toil is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it."

Here we are in isolation and I am wondering how all our readers are doing. Hope we're all doing our part in keeping one another safe.

Penny Jones was in Minot, ND, for the birth of her granddaughter, Lennon Jade, March 8; a little sister for Evelyn.

We want to express our sympathy to the Campbell family at the passing of Andy Campbell who was a resident here.

Activities are somewhat curbed these trying days. Quite amazing how residents’ hobbies and special interests become more evident during this time.

Some are more into reading, or hand crafts or walking the halls.

Margaret Rollo bakes bread. She has a way of sharing her delicious baking with us, much to our delight.

The Scrabble board is always set up in the lounge, a game on the go. Whoever wants to, plays a turn and marks the score in the scorebook.

Well, spring has sprung, as some like to express it. It is exciting to have plus zero temperatures. Snow is disappearing which makes for messy streets and dirty vehicles.

An interesting trivia: It is the time of the equinox, when day and night are equal lengths. During this time in March (and the equinox in September) you can set a raw egg up and it'll stand up on its own.

Though at times difficult, let's look for something positive every day.

Quote for the day: "Every situation in life is temporary. So, when life is good, make sure you enjoy and receive it fully. And when life is not as good, remember it will not last forever and better days are on the way." -Jenni Young
