Rain at last

Virden's three-hour soaker.
rain 01

Monday morning rain is not usually a cheering event, but southwest Manitoba has been thirsting for this downpour of Aug. 12.

Most haying is done is done. The light hay crop (a bale per acre some are reporting) has cattle farmers worried about how they will winter cattle, or whether to sell.

Swathing and combining has barely begun, so the rain is too late for some crops.

Rain started around 9:00 a.m. and has been falling steadily, straight down. By 12:00 noon the streets are awash, gutters running full. The "shower' is forecast to clear off this afternoon.
