Guest speaker at Elkhorn School Remembrance Day was Warrant Officer Gord Brooks, a member of the R.C.A. stationed at CFB Shilo. He has been a member of the forces for 38 years and has had several tours of duty in Canada and abroad that have included Afghanistan, the Oka Crisis, U.N. Peace Keeping duties in Cyprus and avalanche abatement along the Trans Canada Highway in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta and B.C.

His presentation included a slide show and recognition of three Canadian military events, the D-Day invasion, our long involvement in NATO, in which thousands of Canadian military men and women have served and Canada's efforts in the recent Afghanistan War. He pointed out the service, commitment and sacrifice the Canadian military has made over the years around the world to promote world peace and stability.

Legion member Margaret James, with the assistance of W.O. Brooks, handed out a number of awards and certifications of appreciation to students who took part in the Royal Canadian Legion essay, poetry and poster contest.
