RM of Wallace-Woodworth Christmas

Honouring service to community

This year’s RM of Wallace-Woodworth Christmas celebration was an opportunity for visiting, enjoying good food and paying tribute to those who served their community.

Super was served in the Elkhorn Elks Hall on Dec. 14, where, along with elected councillors and municipal staff, invited guests included RCMP, firefighters from Woodworth and Wallace District Fire Departments and representatives from adjacent municipalities. Mayors/reeves/councillors from the Virden, Archie-Ellice, Sifton, Prairie View, Maryfield and Pipestone attended. Representing MP Larry Maguire, Cheryl Porter brought greetings.

Reeve Clayton Canart announced five years of service in recognition of several staff including Denise Mayo who received a plaque.

Former councillors, Sandy Heaman and Murray Routledge were recognized for their role as councillors between 2011–2018. Jerry Nolan served from 2015-2018 as LUD representative.

Corinne Nesbitt was called upon to receive recognition for her service to Elkhorn council 2011 – 2014, and as an LUD representative from 2015 – 2018.

Woodworth Fire Department Chief Ken Bond was honoured for his 22 years both on the fire department, and as fire chief for over a dozen of those years.

Stepping up to the role as chief is seasoned firefighter Chris Routledge of Lenore.

To wind up the evening the feature film included an entertaining slide presentation in honour of former Wallace-Woodworth reeve Denis Carter. Carter served some 24 years on council, mostly in the RM of Woodworth and then as reeve for the first term of the amalgamated Wallace-Woodworth.
