Runner stops briefly near Virden

Cross country runner raises funds for rare diseases; stops for the Scharff family

Dave Proctor arrived in the Virden area Wednesday morning on his cross Canada run for rare diseases.

He stopped briefly just east of town to chat with Cade and Danika Scharff near their home on the Trans-Canada Highway. Cade has a rare health condition; he and his parents Rita and Chad are active in raising awareness.

Rita says Proctor plans to host a public event in Brandon tonight so he didn't stop in Virden.

Proctor left on his journey June 27 from BC and plans to make it to St. John's NFLD in 66 days by running 108 kms a day.
