Fort La Bosse School Division bid farewell to 14 long-serving teachers, support staff, board members and office staff at the Fort La Bosse School Division annual spring Recognition Night, held this year in Oak Lake Hall.

This spring, long-serving teachers Howard Hole and Randy Kalynuk have announced their retirement from teaching (tributes in the next week's edition).

FLBSD Superintendent Barry Pitz spoke briefly saying, “I find it an exciting time, sometimes an emotional time… tonight I’m honoured to acknowledge the employees of our division. As mentors and role models for our children each of you deserves a huge thank you for your choice to be part of a child’s life.”

Among 14 people leaving the employ of the division, several others with tenure over 20 years are also retiring: Donna Barre (36 years with FLB), Eleanor Gillander (31 years), Susan Masson (29 years), Ian Glendinning (28.5 years) and Marion Wiebe (23 years).

Art from Oak Lake School students graced the walls of the hall.

Grades K- Gr. 8 Oak Lake music teacher Karyn Penner presented outstanding student talent to entertain at the banquet and social evening including vocalists, dancers and a speech arts presentation.

The Gr. 4/5 choir sang "Thunder and Lightning" and "The Cat Came Back" along with rain sticks, wind chimes and xylophones to add impact; the band played their recorders in a suite of six pieces with backing tracks. One young man had the crowd chuckling with his self-accompanied performance of "Weird Al" Yankovic version of “Yoda” to the tune of “Lola”.
