The Virden Curling Club team of Skip Dean Dunstone (r-l), Third Graham Freeman, Second Allan Lawn, and Lead Bruce Wyche defeated Murray Warren of the Brandon CC 5-3 in an extra end of the A-B final at the Strathcona Trust Senior West 2 Men’s Regional Qualifier at the Brandon Curling Club on Sunday, Dec. 9.

A victory in Brandon last December means the Winnipeg skip Dean Dunstone’s rink, (which includes Virden’s Graham Freeman and Hamiota’s Allan Lawn) will now compete at the Strathcona Trust provincial playdowns Feb. 20-25, 2019 at the Rivers Curling Club. The Dunstone rink went 4-1 that weekend, losing the A final to Warren before bouncing back with a three-win day on Sunday including a 6-4 victory on the B side against Shawn Taylor of Brandon, followed by a 7-3 victory over Warren in the B final, and finally the victory in the A-B final

Dale Brooks of Hamiota (with Randy McKean of Miniota at Third, Dave Clark at Second, and Robert Lamb at Lead) also won his spot to the Provincials at Rivers at the Senior West 1 Men’s qualifier at Shoal Lake with a 10-0 victory over Kevin Paramor of Arden. The Brooks team went 3-1 on the weekend to earn their berth.
