The Elkhorn Early Learning Centre board recently held a very successful fundraiser. The event started with a steak supper at the Elkhorn Motor Hotel. About 124 people enjoyed the supper with members of the Elkhorn Curling Club providing the manpower to barbeque the steaks.

The remainder of the event was held at the Elkhorn Elks Hall where a silent auction/live auction and raffles were set up. Over 40 items were provided for the live auction which included an outdoor fire pit, bags of canola seed, 20 yards of crushed gravel, BBQ meat package, a little red wagon filled with toys and the ever popular pies!

Bidding was brisk with auctioneer Rhett Parks of Whitewood Livestock Services providing his services free of charge.

During the two short intermissions of the live auction, those in attendance bid on silent auction items and purchased their tickets for the raffle items.

One of the last items in the live auction was an 80-acre jug of wild oat herbicide with the proceeds of this item being donated to the Elkhorn Curling Club.

When all the bidding was completed and all the raffle items drawn, the event raised over $ 36,000 for the Early Learning Centre.

Mike Volk, winner of the 50/50 draw, donated his winnings of $455 back to the group.

Ceri Johnson, board member said, “Thank you does not even begin to express our gratitude and appreciation for the support we received for this event. Businesses and individuals in Elkhorn and surrounding areas went above and beyond to show their support for this project. We are very, very grateful for the many ways people helped to make this event such a success.”

The money will be used to get started on the window project and other renovations that will need to be done to create a daycare within the curling rink.
