Turning of the season welcomes birds' return

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Canada Geese have been on the wing and waddling around sloughs and fields in the area (Virden and Hamiota), for a week and today, March 17, robin red breast is back, just in time to embrace the green - Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Why might we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

I quote the Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica:

St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland was “born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, he was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped but returned in about 432 to convert the Irish to Christianity. By the time of his death on March 17, 461, he had established monasteries, churches, and schools.”
