Virden Collegiate Institute’s Santre Fosty battled through to cap his high school track and field career in style.

In June, Fosty won the bronze medal in discus at the Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Provincial Track and Field Championship. The graduate had a toss of 37.31 metres.

VCI coach John Chandler said this is a great accomplishment as Fosty, who finished second in discus last year, has battled a knee injury. This prevented him from competing in shot put. As well, the injury forced Fosty to do a standing throw – without the normal spin – for discus.

“Santre always worked very hard at his discus and shot put,” Chandler said. “He spent hours out in the field on his own, practicing over and over. He is the most coachable athlete out there, always listening and then trying to make slight changes and adjustments.”
