Virden Junior High Phys. Ed. teacher, Jeff Peel put his hair on the line as a challenge for the Terry Fox Run this year. On Friday, Oct. 4, kids, teachers and people from the community participated in the Run at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Some even skated to raise money for cancer research.

Initially, the fundraising goal for this year’s Run was $4,500, “to beat last year’s $4,456,” said Peel.

“If we reach our goal, I will shave my head in support.”

They did and he did. On Friday, Oct. 11, Peel’s head was shaved.

“We raised a total of $5,523.65, surpassing our goal by a substantial amount.”

Students received prizes for their gathered pledge totals. The top three donors received a Boston Pizza Gift Card: In third - Haiden Wilson gathered $180; second - Cody Sparwood gathered $200; top fundraiser - Carter Pizzey gathered $265.

Top donating class, Keely Woods' Gr. 6 class, raised a total of $943.35 and receives five free Phys. Ed. classes to play a game of their choice.

To those who donated and all the students and staff Peel says, “It means a lot to continue this worthwhile cause in Virden.”
